Best CQ main base settlement

It doesn’t matter what faction you favor. What settlement is your favorite for being a main base (especially for Conqueror) and why? Does it have to do with build size, accessibility, raid defensibility, central location, etc...

I like the idea of Vault 88. I think it is big enough, interesting to build in and with the idea behind Vault-tec it makes sense. I want McCready to be in charge so that the population looks like it comes from all over the place, just like the USA.

Why?
A: Performance, Stability & Immersion.

Almost always Starlight Drive-in, good sized, open and most importantly is in raiding range of a huge number of other settlements. My machine can't handle it when the gang gets too big, so one major base controlling lots of small vassals is about all I can get away with.

Redrocket if I'm playing the quest line (While you can use any settlement the CQ quest line flows so much better at RR). I have a build for it that's optimised to get W/R up and running fast and for the dialogue scenes to all take place without hindrance.

I have to admit I do start a lot of my first builds there. It just isn’t my favorite for a main base. It is my favorite for a players home base. I prefer it over all the others in that regards.

I’ve built a few main bases there. I dislike the bluff that over looks the area. I don’t like how it makes the base look trying to prevent attacks from there. I do however have fun incorporating the movie screen and projector building into the builds that I do there.

When I build my outposts I try to build them to have at a minimum of 17 settlers. That gives me 2 patrollers. One per vassal. RR gets a little crowded for even that let alone a full setup I want to do for my main base.

One of the problems I have with Vault 88 is pathing. Settlers don’t path well into all the areas. I come up with this sweet hallway to connect the water purification plant area which I turn into a hydroponics area, but they just won’t go there or they get stuck.

I do like the central access to most of the settlements that drive-in provides. Before the DLC’s and mods came out it was my central provisioner supply hub.

I would really like to have my dream desktop computer for running things. Starlight would be my trading hub, the Vault would be my Capital, the Castle would run my military, Spectacle Island would be a Arena, Maze and Entertainment settlement...

If I had a rig that could handle the mods and software needed to build Plots, Factions and City Plans I would give them a go. I have this idea for some plots that would work with the destroy able walls to create catwalks, platforms, etc. for walled in settlements based on the Junk Town Fence mod. I want to build some low resource settlements that still keep CQ in mind as they upgrade, but reduce the likelihood of crashes. I’ve been playing around in the Virtual Workshops CC mods and I would love to put out some city plans for those. I like the idea of uniting the Commonwealth, Nuka World and Far Harbor so I’ve been thinking of a faction that was based on that and the leaders or commanders would recruit from different factions based on their back stories.

So much I want to do, so little to work with and at 50 some odd years of age it won’t get any easier as I age, sigh.
