Anyone using Horizon together with Conqueror?

Hi all,

SS has convinced me to reinstall FO4 after a long, long hiatus. It looks absolutely incredible, an entirely new game.

I really like the sound of Horizon too, though, due to the increase in difficulty and survival/scarcity aspect. I've searched around a lot and it seems that it's mostly compatible. However those threads were all a bit old, mostly before IR and RoTC, and all before Conqueror's release!

So, I was wondering if anyone here is currently using Horizon (especially Desolation Mode) with SS Conqueror, and how you find the balance. I'm looking for a hardcore survival experience, where stuff (food, water, ammo, meds etc) is scarce and difficult to get hold of.

Is it necessary to cut out the advanced industrial entirely to avoid getting stuff too easily? Do the pre-made cities make it far too easy to get stuff, even when not owned, or would it be enough to just *not* conquer them until mid-late game when I'm much more established and stick to building my own from the bottom-up initially?

Looking forward to hearing any experiences you have with SS/Horizon and any advice you might have, thanks a lot! :D

I haven't used Horizon since 1.5 and I never used it along side SS. But what I do know is Horizon and
SS both auto assign settlers to jobs so there's potential for conflict unless you give one priority.

Conqueror and Horizon will absolutely give you a hardcore experience if you are taking and defending a lot of settlements as you will burn through ammo and meds.

Taking over prebuilds will churn out caps, but they are not that useful with Horizon. Industrial plots won't output more scrap than Horizons scrap collector job.

This could all be fairly inaccurate now though as Horizon has gone through a couple of major updates since I last played.

I have only read about Horizon and its features on its Nexus page. I have considered trying it for quite awhile. But my instinct would be to try it stand alone without any other mods first until I fully understand the balance changes and other features it makes to the game. I see a lot of potential conflicts between Horizon and SS and IMHO it would be better to play both these mods separately until you know what each does.

I use it. Though only in parts. I turned off it's auto assignment and autoequip, and use ILS for supply lines instead of of the horizon way. Barely ever use Horizon workstations, too.

There are some mods which you might be interested in:
  • RedBaron's SimSettlements patch: mostly just makes plots cost extra resources and adds some item tags
  • My SimSettlements patch (selectable in the FOMOD): fixes one specific SS quest, adjusts some formlists and adds some keywords.
  • RedBaron's Horizon Job Plots: Adds plot variants of Horizon workstations
  • My patch generators: for xEdit or zEdit: Both include a "Horizonifier", which attempt to automatically generate patches for Horizon. If run on SimSettlements and/or it's addons, it should also make commercial plots count as Horizon vendors. I might have added that to my patch either way, but I can't remember for sure

Surprised at that you wouldn't use Horizons supply system, I have Horizon installed solely just for that feature, I use nothing else from it.

I also use my own supply system for some locations (Spectacle Island and Water World). But I like to do this using plots most of the time.
