Any way to remove the Preston quest after killing him?

It really bugs me that the quest doesn't fail and drop out of the quest log if you kill him. Is there any way to get rid of it? Why is there not a condition added to the quest to fail it if Preston dies?

See what the short name is for that quest Wiki calls it MIN00 for i assume the starting minuteman quest.

completequest MIN00 should do it for you, get it out of your log and tell the game that the questline is completed, instead of sitting there greyed out and useless.
