Wanna start off this post by stating how much i love it. Had SS ever since it was first released, and it's always top of my must-haves whenever i reinstall F4 and go through the process of modding the nuts outta it.
Always had a problem with both Artillery and Supply Routes. The latter i solved by getting IDEK Logistics, there's usually enough room in a plan for me to smack down one after the foundation level is built (i like to keep designer's choice on for plot types). I still have problems with Artillery gunners being unassigned/reassigned. I usually like to have at least 3 unemployed settlers to wander around and do all the "blue man" jobs, but it would be nice if we could exempt specific settlers from the auto-assign feature.
Some alternatives would be:

- An option that ONLY unassigned settlers can get assigned,
OR
- A holotape tool that puts quest markers on all the unoccupied plots so we can turn auto-assign off and do it ourselves,
(if one of these is already a feature and i've overlooked it, please let me know)

Also, some sort of feature when donating supplies to auto-donate whatever junk is in our inventory, saves spending 10 minutes spamming "enter" as fast as i can to take all the scrap outta my logistics locker and then back into the donation bin. My impending carpal tunnel thanks you.

Otherwise, love this mod, keep it up!
 
There are already assignment options where you set the likes of whether or not settlers can be assigned away from vanilla work objects or not.
 
I think Brae's denfenses addon has artillery plots in it. They may work better (though I haven't tried them).
They are what I use if I want artillery. Use the ones from the first megapack though as they have been fixed to work correctly.
 
I've got "auto-assign away from work" off already, settlers manning artillery still get assigned away. So, doesn't work
Ah, I think I remember Kinggath mentioning in another post, that he's working on some more reliable code for handling work objects. So hopefully this is already on the road to getting fixed. For now we may need to rely on workarounds.
 
Thinking about it I suspect that the game isn't actually re-assigning the settlers. I've noticed on my current build that with two settlers who I have assigned to defence markers, they occasionally get unassigned. If I had spare plots and assignment active I would assume that the system would then assign them to those plots.
