Especially early on it can be quite a challenge to keep your rabble happy. It can be brought down by battle losses, not having twice as many warriors to other types, being told to work a farm and all the vanilla issues.
Having plenty of recreational plots helps, but many people find lots of donations to the city planner desk of drink & drugs to be a great solution. Some have also suggested intentionally leaving recent vassals unguarded so that you can repeatedly raid them when you loose control, as successful raids give a boost as long as you don't take too many casualties.
