Solved Strange background glitch in character creation

Hello all,

I have been using SS for several years now and recently decided to start a new playthrough with a fresh game install. After re-installing all my mods using Vortex and lauching the game, I noticed a strange glitch during the fade-out into the character creation screen.

Here a screenshot to make things clearer:

I get this glitch for a very short period, sometimes no longer than a flash, sometimes a couple seconds, right before getting the creation options. I have uninstalled SS and all it's addons, after which I no longer notice this. Once I install the SS 3n1 main file (v4.2.7), without addons, this happens.

Would this be normal, due to the mod starting up, or something else?

Maybe delay enabling until after the pre-war sequence any mod like an ENB, environmental foggy atmosphere, & weather mods.

I also like using this:

I don't use any weather mods but even when I did I never have had the issue you are showing us.

If it continues maybe post your load order?

I've redone my installation, attempting to follow your Baked guide and only installing the mods that I think match that method (the pre-mirror step). Unfortunately I still have the same glitch.

The texture(?) flashing in the background seems to be the Sanctuary sign background and it only appears when I have Sim Settlements installed. Strangely enough I have never had issues like this before either.

A small update:

I've run the game with just the following mods and nothing else:
- The unofficial patch
- MCM
- HudFramework
- Sim Settlements 3 in 1

Still the same strange texture in character creation.

My boyfriend tried the mod as well, just for test reasons, resulting in the same issue on a different computer, different graphics card and different mod setup.

So I don't know. I guess I'll wait until a next update of the mod.

So let me play devil's advocate for a second. Does that little thing happen in the game itself? As in, after you get completely through the start sequence and Codsworth sends you off into the world? A good number of mods start up around that time. Reason I ask is kinda simple. SS isn't even running at that point. The mod doesn't start running untill you get into the MoF and turn on the computer for it. (Don't forget to pick up those ASAM sensors!) It's not automatic.
If you know some console commands, and have Looksmenu (plus a couple mods for it) You might make almost any face you like. Plenty of face presets up on the Nexus too. You can do all that before rescuing the Party of Forlorn Hope.

Hi Parrottheada,

I played up to meeting Preston and did not notice any further issues. The glitch only happens in the character creation screen.

I understand that SS only starts after running the holotape, however, it does add some things to the game beforehand, otherwise there would be no holotape in the first place.

I had a little video to show, but am unable to post it due to my new status.

If you think I can simply ignore this, I'll do so gladly. I just want to make sure I got a (as much as possible) stable game so I do not run into further issues later.

Thank you for the replies so far.

I also have been getting a glitch of light during the character creation lately and I have not changed my mods/LO for months - that is not saying any new version of SS is the cause - but I only that I have seen this as well.

The issue in trying to troubleshoot this is I have so many mods isolation would be difficult at this point.

*The only difference I see is that my looksmenu/compendium is higher in the LO and I place patches lower. You are using LOST so I am not sure what is hidden in there.

Hi John, not sure if it will help your situation, but as I stated a couple days ago, I have run into this issue with only 4 mods installed, not including Lookmenu or LOST.

Even more, in the meantime I have run the game with only SS 3-in-1, no other mods whatsoever, and I get the glitch. If I remove SS, no glitch.

@Laria If the game runs well otherwise, I would ignore it. I have almost 300 mods running, and I know of a few that have most of their ESP's converted to Esl except where the number of records is very large.

Come to think of it though, I have kinda seen that IRL after I take a shower and the mirror glass is all fogged up. Something you could do is to look for a 'reduced fog' mod up on the Nexus. Install it and see if it works.

I agree with this.... there are quirks every where - all part of modding - just have to realize it is still better than the vanilla game :)

John

The fog is not the problem though, the big sign in the background is.

In any case, thank you all. Even though the issue was not fixed, I'll live with it, so I'll set the topic to solved.
