whenever I finish defending a settlement it directs me to go speak with someone in the settlement, problem is they will only trade with me, they won’t enter into dialogue and sometimes the trade menu will open up when I approach the NPC before i even interact with them

So far the only method i have of completeing theses quests is killing the marked npc so i can fail it.

I suspect that sim settlements might be involved although I’ve never had this problem before until recently when it just started out of nowhere

I have had this happen before but I never figured it out. Odd one this, rolling back wasn't much help. I just kept playing. Some of them started to work for me when I assigned them to another settlement in the workshop.

If you have fallrim you can post the active scripts. I don't think it will help you here but something might jump out that could help.

Are you on PC and have access to the console? You can just set the quest as complete. I've had to do that for a few bugged minutemen radiant quests.

i really wouldn't recommend that as a good solution. if you console command quests you are headed down the path of corrupted games. i get its a nice workaround, but its masking a problem and random console commands only make it worse in the long run.
