A little info first. The Dev modder of this mod has tried to help as best he can on the Nexus. Lastly, he suggested I ask other VR users here since you guys seem to have got the latest mod working.

So, I just can`t get SS 4.2.2a to work. Not the 3-in-1 or the solo. I`d never used SS before, though I`d been aware of it for years. Finally decided to give it a go on a new run through of Fallout4VR.
The issue is that it simply does not show up. No matter what I do. I`ve been using Vortex to install, then finally manually installed, repeatedly over weeks. made Clean Saves, restarted a brand new game (from my original 50th level). Tried different tactics such as waiting until i was several levels along before going to the museum. Rinse repeat. Nothing.

Finally decided to try the old v.3.4.6 which I`d never used and voila! The boxes appeared with the tape to start it all.

I`ve been using this old version, but it bugs me that I can`t use the uptodate latest one. I would love to solve this puzzle. I`m not a modder (well I made one mod for Oblivion a very long time ago), but I`m pretty experienced in using mods and originally always manually installed before MM and Vortex came along.

I`m particularly interested in you VR guys and SS. Have you got the 4.2.2 working and do you have any clues as to why I just don`t seem able to get mine functioning?

I`m using the Rift S.
Thanks in advance.

Ok, I`m an artist\catoonist and it may not mean much, but anyone who manages to solve this issue, I`ll do a free picture of their character or mod (exclusively theirs). :)

For a start, I'm not a VR user. But the obvious idea, I think, is to simply try and update Sim Settlements now that you have the holotape. Make a save game first, of course, this would be a test. Check if you have new holotape options like building skins and being able to turn off the leader requirement, activate an ASAM sensor and see if you have the option to customize a plot, and so on (check the patch notes in the Wiki to see what else has changed).

If that somehow really works it'd probably be best to update a new game directly after you found the holotape and before you started building anything. Or to tear down any (ROTC) settlements you already started, I think there have been a few changes to the (now compacted) city plans.

And if it doesn't help, I had great fun building all the ROTC settlements with version 3.x, so even if you have to stick to the old version you won't miss out on much. Should look awesome in VR.

Hm, I’ve seen this problem pop up lately for VR players, no solution found that I know of.

On a hunch, do you know if the VR version of Fallout 4 supports the new format for mod files (v1.0.0 instead of 0.95) that was introduced in the 1.10.162 November patch for pc (I don’t know the equivalent version for VR)?

If it doesn’t, you could try the SS version 4.1.7 (if you play with Conqueror) or 4.2.0 (if you only use the core SS). These versions are the last ones that don’t require the new format. Until the VR version gets patched to support the v1.0.0 format (if it doesn’t).

(Edited the SS version numbers because I had them wrong)

Thankyou for your quick reply. Tried this before, but I did this again just in case you had the magical touch.
Same. Nothing shows up. Whether I remove all the early building stuff or leave it there, it will all vanish if I install the 4.2.2 SS. Nothing in my Pip boy. Nothing shows up in the Museum.

Never heard of Conquerer. I really don`t want to dig deeper by adding yet another Mod when this one isn`t working or is it a part of SS? Guess I`ll just stay with v.3.4.6 until any one else comes up with new ideas.

I thank you both for your suggestions. It is warmly appreciated.

it doesn't. OP needs to edit the version number in the file header to 0.95000 from 1.0 with f04vredit and it will work fine after that. I was having the same problem and that fixed it.

I have f04vredit, but I do not know how to do this editing of the version number or where to find it. Can you save me a little time give some instruction on that please?

p.s. I may not be able to reply straight away today, but will tomorrow if this actually works for me.

@Socratatus It might be worth to try this mod to bypass the version check if you don't feel comfortable with fo4vredit. Keep in mind though that some mods actually use functionality that requires the version of Fallout 4 that has the 1.0.0 in the header, so bypassing or changing the header can cause issues. Workshop Plus is one such mod.

The safest thing to do is probably to either stay on Sim Settlements version 3.4.6 or update to version 4.1.7 but not do any later updates than that. Version 4.1.7 is ok for you to use in vr.

Alright. I used the Mod, since the other guy never gave a break down of how to edit the version number, and 4.2.2 3in1 worked, just like that. I even started a new game and to make sure. It works. nothing appears busted. So that was indeed the reason, the VR version number differs from the 2D game. I am surprised no VR user seems to have informed the modders of this cos I spent ages with the modder on this issue.

I will try to help any VR users with this issue in future. I could have used more info from Teegee, but Tinuvia was the first to suggest my problem was in this area and provide a solution that I could use straight away.

Tinuvia, you can have a free pic of your Fallout character, if you want. Just send me a screenpic and a small description of how you see you character. if you can`t do a screenpic, a description will do and I`ll work off that.

And thanks to everyone for their input. :)

Just proceed with caution until Bethesda patches the VR version. Kinggath (the developer of Sim Settlements) generally does take advantage of new functionality that Bethesda adds with updates, so Sim Settlements may in the future rely on the true version 1.0.0 of the game. As far as I know, it doesn’t today.

Thank you, that is very generous of you :) but I have my own cartoonist hubby so I’m covered ;)

He does good work!
Well, I like to make good on promises I made, so if you ever change your mind, the offer is there.

I tend to play my games Offline most times, but yes, I will have to keep an eye on updates Bethesda pushes out. Steam won`t let me stay Offline forever.

Hello, again, all!
Ok, It`s been a while but just to update for future VR users and good people who help them. The Mod Fallout 4 version Checker Patcher allows the most recent Sim Settlers to work, but causes real problems with the AI pathing in buildings and Quests. For example going into that Arcjet (or whatever it`s called) building with the Brotherhood guy causes him to break or teleport or just go back and forth. It even screwed with my Follower Curie going into quest buildings. Took me a while to figure out the issue. Finally turned to 3.4.6 which stopped all the bugginess- had to start a new game. Then I got tired and decided to leave it awhile.

I`m back and have reinstalled everything fresh and will use the 4.1.7 version of sim settlements instead which Tinuvia has recommended, thanks. Nothing was wrong with 3.4.6 though and I may return to that if 4.1.7 becomes a problem.

This game can be a lot of work, but when properly Modded in VR it`s like another life, so I guess that`s why i keep at it! Oh and I hate abandoning a problem.

Anyway, just to let others know, don`t use the Fallout 4 version Checker Patcher for VR Fallout4.

:)
