Solved Graygarden Assault Will Not End - Subdue Defenders, Update - Success

Probably need some technical assistance here. Assaulted Graygarden three times and encountered the same situation: assault quest would not complete due to subdue remaining defenders.
  1. tried three assaults and to all appearances eliminated the defenders and the supporting civilians/robots with no more "red"
  2. searched Graygarden carefully including the overpass - no defenders
  3. there were no remaining defender markers
  4. used console command "kah" several times at the end of the assault when no defenders could be found
  5. used console command sqt, where it states at Graygarden "Subdue the remaining defenders - Displayed", see image
  6. used console command sqo that listed quests IDs. Even though none were obviously related, checked hopefully all of the them
  7. after the above waited 17 minutes for scripts to clear
Additional suggestions/assistance is always appreciated.

I have experienced this a couple of times myself. What worked for me both times was to scout around Graygarden some distance to find any group of apparently unrelated enemies (for example, a group of raiders traveling along the east-west road just south of Graygarden, under the railway bridge). Once I took them out then the quest completed. Give that a try if nothing else works.

Thanks, but that did not work. Went west to the ArcJet road, north to Jalberts, east to the next bridge, and south to bridge over the river. Also, used console command "kah" several times. Maybe a need to wait longer for the scripts to clear after this.

PS: walked around closer this time using "kah" and waited 15 minutes (clock time) with no success. If I can find the quest ID, I will use the console to complete the quest, but no success so far.

Using console commands (sqt and sqo), I have now reviewed all the quests and none are relevant. So a new question, what does a Conqueror vassal assault quest ID generally look like?

There may be an NPC that is tied to the settlement but is not hostile. the kah command only kills those that are already aggroed.
killall nukes everything.
i had to use that in Vault 88 because of those damned buggy molerats. Once they aggro on you, you can't save your game. So, walk in the vault, kill the overseer, killall.
sad because I like killing the deathclaw and mirelurk queen, but alas, I like saving my game more.

I don't know the range on killall. it cleared out all of vault 88, but that's a self-contained zone.

Tried twice:
  1. just used "killall" and got Failed Assault message
  2. first used "kah" and then "killall", and got the Failed Assault message
I am hoping either (a) someone provides me with a generic assault Quest ID or (b) I stumble on it. I, in theory, have reviewed the quests under "sqo" and did not find anythings

Thanks - on to Plan B whatever that is. However, I did try and learn that it may be possible to field an army or a large squad (15 warriors). I am going to suggest this to Kinggath and the team, as a possible future update, https://simsettlements.com/site/ind...-field-an-army-or-a-really-large-squad.12045/ .

Update 1: Plan B more or less - it appears and this is not confirmed that the console command thread for settlement assaults is "WSFW_AssaultSettlement_PlayerInvolved01" If true, this command is not present at Graygarden using sqt and sqo.

Thanks - I appreciate your comment. In my game 4, I had to stop and restart because I could not progress due to the inability to launch an assault as a result of out-of-order assault messages. In this one (#5), it appears I can not progress due to the inability to complete the vassal assault. This is the nature of a work-in-progress. Hopefully, Kinggath and the team will fix these assault problems relatively soon.

I have the same thing happening in Abernathy. I'm playing the Children of Atom Liberator faction pack (which is freakin' amazing) but I can't get past the 'subdue' portion of the quest.
Like you, I've looked through the console to see if I could manually step the quest, but nope.
I did kah all over the place and nope.

There is a lot going on there, like Greygarden.
  • Civilians
  • Settlers
  • NPCs
  • Captors / baddies
  • Goodies (our team)
  • The Player
  • Plot spawned critters
Something in there isn't registering right in the quest count for subdued.
Believe me when I tell you that I killed everything in Abernathy. I mean, it was a blood bath. Kitty cat, countless Rad chickens... it was like Genghis Khan rode through there.

Hopefully, KG and the team will address this relatively soon, because at the moment I can not progress in the assault portion of Conqueror as a Liberator.

Use sqv WSFW_AssaultSettlement_PlayerInvolved01

This will dump out a bunch of info you can use the PageUp key to see. Look for the SubdueToComplete section, it will have a bunch of hex numbers for the defenders. You can use prid X (where X is the hex number of one of them) to select them with console. Followed by moveto player to bring them to you.

If you can't find any living NPCs this way, then some save file examples would be helpful as I cannot repeat this in a minimum load order game using any of the faction packs I use for testing (I currently use BOS, Minutemen, and Supermutant packs to test and ensure modded factions work as well as the Conqueror raiders)

That command does indeed yield a pile of information.
Subdue to complete - None
Kill to complete lists 14 gunners (including mr. gutsy)
When I prid them and then moveto player they don't come. :(
Ha! when I moved myself to the PRID, the black loading screen appeared... and I didn't move.
It's not even Monday.

Be glad to - question: do I just use the blue Upload a File" button or is there another preferred method? Also, I assume I send this directly to KG via DM.

A dm to kinggath will work. If the zipped file is too big to attach maybe a link to Dropbox.

Just encountered this issue at Abernathy. Using Atom of Glory Liberator mod. However, I was able to fix my issue in a very weird way. I happened to pass by the settlement previously, and killed many of the defenders/conquerors as they were rust devil faction and immediately aggro'd me. Later, started an assault. Everything went smoothly up until the subdue the defenders quest marker popped. Killed all of the remaining defenders. Quest would not complete. Odd...

So I reloaded before the assault. Went to Abernathy, and a single rust devil was still alive in the settlement. Killed him. Returned to base and started assault. Everything worked perfectly. Assault Abernathy, subdue the last defenders, quest completes. Abernathy can now bask in Atom's Glow and get to farming those sweet shrooms.

Perhaps there are left over enemies that get removed before the assault starts? I have no idea really. But going to the settlement and killing the faction conquerors before 'liberating' them seems to have allowed the quest to complete.

Go figure.

Edit: I did try to restart the assault several times before going to Abernathy and killing that last Rust Devil. So it wasn't rng in this case. The issue seems to be directly related to that one left over rust devil in my case.

Further testing. This time sunshine tidings. Visited settlement, had raiders, raiders attacked. Killed the ones that attacked. Left. Started vassal assault with Atom's Glory Liberators. Returned to sunshine, carried out assault, subdue maker popped up, killed all marked defenders, quest did not complete.

Reloaded save before assault. Returned to sunshine, killed all raiders and hostile NPCs in area, traveled to outpost, set up assault, back to sunshine, carried out assault, subdue marker popped up, killed all marked defenders and hostiles, quest completed.

So either a coincidence twice at two different settlements, or there is some bug where if you visit and contact hostiles in a settlement, and leave some of them alive, vassal assaults with liberators in that settlement bug out at the subdue portion of the quest.

Would be curious of others who have had this issue could test my theory in their saves?

Thanks for your comments.

Before my three unsuccessful attempts to vassal assault Graygarden, I did visit it to eliminate the Gunner guards. I found only one guard that was alive and two Gunner Gutsys that had been previously killed. After killing the one guard, I became allied to Graygarden. Before starting the first assault, I went back a second time to make sure all the guards had been eliminated, including building steps to search the top of the overpass. All my earlier vassal and outpost assaults were successful.

This is my game 5 as a BoS Liberator. In game 4, I had to stop because, after 4-6 different attempts to vassal assault The Slog, the assault messages were not presented in the proper order and the assault could not be properly conducted. In both games, I had about 120-160 hours of gameplay before these problems occurred.

As noted above, Kinggath and the team need to look into this.

PS: I will go back before I eliminated the guards, attack and eliminate the Gunner guards again, then use "kaH", and replay the Graygarden vassal assault.
