Question Vassal Quest completion/Enslave Function = CTD

hey! new member here, was told to post my issue from the Nexus SS Conq page to here. i'll copy + paste the comments/issues below (it isn't a 50 page essay don't worry)

love this mod, the uniqueness and the atmosphere it gives really keeps this playthrough lively for me. cant imagine playing without it, vanilla settlements feel very two dimensional and im no Picasso by any means haha, a few minor bugs but one I cant seem to get around is anytime I capture Abernathy Farm I CTD instantly, like the split second that the popup comes on. i have vanilla sanctuary discovered have yet to do anything there with conqueror however, and red rocket. using prebuilt cities lv1 and going from there. ive heard of the triangle of death with red rocket, Abernathy farm and sanctuary wondering if it relates to too much in the cell? no idea. any help would be great

using Vortex/loot can post load order if need be

just tried to enslave Finch Farm but I got CTD there as well instantly upon completion. I have a quest up for there though, Out of the Fire. haven't done any progress on it.

EDIT : got it to work narrowly by only getting 2 enslaved @ Abernathy Farm, had a few ctd's (seems to be when I hit R to activate "enslave" option, whether its a vassal capture or outpost & take captives. Red Rocket was taken over before this and I realized I sent Sarah there as a leader, now I cant find her. TIA

complex city plans? not sure ill have to check. and not using any scrap mods. I don't think it relates to my performance. I can replicate the ctd everytime if I enslave, and only sometimes if I complete an assault with an enslave function (outpost + captures, or just vassal)

EDIT: seems to be random civilians that are affected upon enslave activation, however if I find one that I CTD on; it is a consistent CTD 100%
EDIT: also to expand on the last edit, currently trying to take Tenpines Bluff I managed to tip toe my way around CTD's on enslave activation function on Civilians , however I get a consistent CTD upon the quest completion. I opened pipboy in a panic and about 0.5-3s after the quest completes I CTD. I had the identical issue at Abernathy Farm. somehow managed to succeed there in making it a Vassal (took probably 3-4 hours vs the 10minutes it should've taken), regular assaults (outposts) go fine so far, no CTD's there. it's when I take "outpost & capture the civilians" aka enslave npc or take Vassal, is when it ctd's activating the actor with "R" key to enslave and/or quest completion. this bug is really the only game breaking thing about this mod for me. I cant play without it."

then i was told to post here. no idea how to make a spoiler but i can post my load order.
 
likely gonna go a bit back in my save before this assault and try other settlements to vassal/outpost + capture civilians. if the CTD with enslave activator function, and the Vassal/capture cilvian quest completion keeps persisting with CTD's, I may pause my conqueror/raider aspect and continue with vanilla quests.

Those who know better may be able to spot any particular issues/ conflicts with the load order, but it does look like you have a lot going on.
Sim Settlements and its add-ons ask a lot of the game engine and it can often help reduce crashes if you can reduce the engine's work load. There are loads of options in the city manager holotape that let you tinker with performance options. My own first stop would be to try turning a few things off and maybe turning down graphics settings.
If that doesn't help, there may be a mod conflict in there somewhere. That can be tested by making a save that you can go back to. Then trying to play with non essential mods turned off, then adding them back in halves until you find which mod(s) it doesn't work with. Removing some of the mods may also reduce the workload enough to allow things to work. But bear in mind that removing mods mid-play can also introduce bugs, so if you do find a conflict you may need to restart without the offending mod instead of just playing on without it.
 
it doesn't seem like a graphical/hardware issue, no idea about it being the game engine (I could see that being the case though), but it only happens with those functions I mentioned above. I cannot make use of the vassal/captive features because of this issue. outpost assaults work fine. I have starlight and haven't ctd'd there once. not using complex cities, I just tried turning a few down and no luck. first civilian I went to enslave -> instant ctd. Im sure if I only manage to get 1 and succeed, ill still CTD on the quest completion, haven't had any other issues aside from fps drop. I had previously on this save had a CTD issue around boston area with a spawn mod and I believe a tree overhaul mod was not helping that issue. probably have spent a good 12h on that situation so trying to keep this save going. if I restart im gonna weed out the potential culprit but that's a last resort id reeeaallllly hate to do.. ill try to lower graphics and more holotape settings, but if it was a script load/engine capability issue one would think the other loads ive put on it would've been worse. and this is a consistent ctd on the quest completion and slavers collar actual use in the raid. smells like a conflict issue or maybe improper install but I haven't seen any posts on the mod page or this site so im kinda feeling hopeless for this save. trying to avoid uninstalling mods at this point is also why im leaning away from the long process of testing the ctd's. im almost at my wits end though so im likely going to do the long trial and error process. I already reverted the save and attempted a different approach and gave it a bit more time. same results. ill try the same save but with only essentials enabled and see. will update with any changes or potential fixes, or if I cave in and just make a new save.
 
One thing I did notice in your load order, shouldn't there only be one Live Dismemberment plugin used at a time? Not sure it it would affect this issue, but it stood out.
 
ill fix that, I know for a fact I disabled the others but perhaps that was on a separate mod profile that is gone now? haha ill fix that although I have little hope that's the solution haha. turned down graphics to medium in wizard and launcher. when I pop a raid should I be waiting after the quest starts? getting ctd fast traveling to the Service Station near Tenpines Bluff. Im about to update SS Conq and SS from 4.1.7a so hopefully a few of these potential fixes works. if not I have no idea. guess ill do the ole trial and error and endure on lol.
 
so I had luck with making Tenpines a Vassal, VS before when it was outpost + capture civilians. quest completed, no CTD. however after 30-60s of waiting I tried to enslave a downed civilian, of course instand CTD. if I can get this enslave/outpost + capture ctd gone my game will be running great again.

EDIT: I have a save right there with about a dozen npcs, gonna test each one. 5/6 on CTD/enslave activate attempts, out of the 12 or so only 6 were able to actually enslave and of those I crashed on 5 of them, consistent CTD's on those npcs. the same NPC I was able to enslave everytime. where as before it was random but about every 1 out of 2 enslaves was CTD.

EDIT: tried to enslave an attacking enemy raider at my settlement, instant CTD. im dumbfounded honestly, if it was CTD every time that would make sense to me. guess I have to do the ole trial and error disable/enable mods. probably gonna just not use this feature of SSConq till I really need to then get around to rooting out the potential issue, and continue my gameplay/questing unfortunately.

i noticed you dont have UFO4P in your load order. I'd suggest that's a must-have for any game, but adding it to your current play through won't help you now though.
I don't honestly know what to say - you have so much stuff in your load order that it could be literally anything causing your issues.
 
ive ran many of the same mods previous playthroughs with no issues. but I suspect if it isn't a conflict I may have to cut a few mods I barely use/could lose and make a new save. would be my very last resort though...

also I don't use the unofficial patch due to it requiring all DLC, im missing Vault-tec workshop at the moment.

EDIT: also my save file in starlight is about 70-85mb, however in sanctuary (vanilla settlement) near RR (prebuilt SSConq) and Abernathy (vassal w/ no upgrades) is about 28-50mb. higher than before but I haven't installed any new mods as far as I remember. whereas before they were 25-45mb max. actually looking over my saves theyre averaging 30-40 which if I remember isn't bad. but 70-85 in starlight worries me. I put a cap on build size and went for performance, 60fps there with the odd drop.

there are pieces of the ufo4p that have been altered over the years, which some simsettlements scripts also use. i am going to suggest that not having this, or the dlc - while not a strong requirement, would be beneficial to game stability.

the length of time you've had mods is mostly irrelevant. mods can be stable for ages, or they can be abandoned and not be maintained when the game is updated.

there are mods in your load order like the dismemberment mods which i think you only need to choose one, not all. you can't remove them, as removing mods breaks your game.

its a curious load order. i can't fathom it. i wish i could say "oh it's mod x' but the fallout engine is flaky at best, you have a ton of mods, many i've never seen or heard of, and the more mods you have, the more flakiness you're going to get.

other than simply recommending a new game with a significantly reduced load order, and looking to prune everything you don't absolutely need, there's not much else i can offer, mabe some of the other people in the community can chime in.
 
ill get the dlc sometime soon here and get the ufo4p but yea im kind of thinking its gonna have to pruned and start a new save. I know as a matter of fact I disabled the extra dismemberment esp's however I had vortex make a few clones and did some trial and error previously and ended up finding that fix, so maybe I had forgotten to do that on this profile. I had no issues since aside from this situation here. gonna see how the game fairs and see if any other issues arise but im fairly certain ill have to make a new save sooner or later. I know of these 2 issues atleast so I know I can replicate the scenario again in the future.
 
It could have something to do with your timing.
When an assault completes, there is a LOT going on. Sometimes many minutes worth. There is a delay built in so the settlers and civilians don't stand up too soon. If they do, they are not allied to you yet and they will attack your faction and you. This time, however, it's a never ending process of them falling down, getting back up and fighting... forever.
So kinggath built in a delay to let all the scripts complete. For me, with several vassals and an outpost, it can take 5 minutes or so. When I get my third outpost and such, I go and get coffee.

If you're trying to enslave, take collars off, anything that will change that NPC's role while they're still down, I think bad things will happen.

If that's not the case and your waiting for them to pop up then... I'm not sure what the problem is to be honest.

Bingo.
And attacking raiders also have a pile of scripts attached to them. They're not really generic Raiders. They quest targets that need to be accounted for so the quest can progress... changing them mid-stream is bound to break scripts and thus the game.
