Question Sanctuary crashing, another thread.

Fresh install, everything brand new and shiny.

Just loaded everything inside Vault 111 as per everyone's recommendation, took several hours. Then, walking into sanctuary, waiting outside the crash area and waiting a further 15mins.

Still crashing afterwards, I have the most updated everything and tried any and all the fixes located on all the simsettlements websites and pages. Used all search functions too but any feedback is for older versions.

I am running current version, whatever you need me to post, I'll post it.

ANY help would be fantastic.

strip your load order back to only UFO4P, sim settlements, conqueror, workshop framework and maybe hud framework and start a new game. that is the bare minimum number of mods to get you going.

do the starter zone, select your conqueror options and let it build everything before you leave vault 111.

before you leave the vault make a hard save. you can go back to this any time you have a problem.

do the sanctuary quests with codsworth and see how you go.
if you get that far, load up your mods a few at a time.
 
I shall have a go and post feedback. I noticed even when I removed everything I couldn't even open workshop even when I had nothing installed. I'm going to remove all my mods and do a blanket wipe of everything and try again.

Move this WSFW should be above SS.

@Prilladog, honestly man there are a ton of mods in your LO that aren't loaded per their author's instructions. I sure do not think is anything to do with Sim Settlements. :this

Before you jump in and enable everything you need to hit the mod pages and re-read them.
mods like this are out of date:

I know they are not enabled but if you do your current lo has a ton of issues.

I've been out of the country for 9 months and a lot of things updated during that time, which is why i'm starting fresh. Things have been jumbled around due to that, as such i'm awaiting the install and then retrying as per your instructions.
 
Thank you so much everyone for your help. I'm going to guess that after 9 months away from my PC a lot of updates needing doing, both mods and the PC itself. After hours of updating, fixing, reinstalling, swearing and life contemplation, it's working.

if i were you, @Prilladog, i would run my game with only the mods i listed to begin with.
recently i re-installed fo4, i'd not played it for a couple of months, fired up my mod manager, and you wouldn't believe the amount of mods that were updated in that time, so i can only imagine how many you have had to battle with.
my solution was to start the game only with UFO4P which has recently been updated again and is 100% necessary, simsettlements, conqueror and workshop framework.
the game fired up and worked right out of the box - just what i wanted.
i then added as many city plans as i could find from the great people on this website.

Yesterday, I started a new game - and this is important - i removed all the city plans from starlight drive-in - nothing about the city plans - rather the location is a buggy mess that has broken more than one game. so - in my latest play through starlight drive-in is completely vanilla, but everything else is up for grabs.

So far the game is working better than ever and i've encountered a built up greygarden settlement which looks amazing and will become my first base when the time comes.

honestly, a reduced load order is the way to go - then - once you have a stable game - look through your mod list - you have so many that are going to give you issues - aim for stability over style and you won't go far wrong.

the advice and modlists that @RayBo and @MrCJohn are right on the money. i think you're in good hands with those guys! good luck to you my friend.

I just went through this a couple weeks ago, and ended up cleaning up my modlist and starting over. I don't want to do that again.
I chose to post here for the moment rather than add yet another Sanctuary crash thread...

I'm 67 hours into a play through and started crashing when returning to Sanctuary. I'm playing a heavily charismatic character atm and have 26 settlers there already. My PC is pretty old at this point, but I'm running on fairly mediocre settings. My Sanctuary happiness was stuck for awhile due to a food situation and bed issues that were annoying me, but I got that resolved and all my buildings started upgrading. I think the problem is that they all upgraded at the same time and now Sanctuary is trying to process a ton of shit all at once.

The triangle of death shouldn't be an issue, I don't have Abernathy as a settlement and RR is just a player home with no settlers.

I've gone through all the in game debugging and have run Fallrim/ReSaver, but I don't really know what to do with it. I have admittedly not been totally "responsible" with my mods, but I've only added/removed a handful of small ones that I either missed when I started or were breaking my game in some way. According to Fallrim, I have 60 unattached scripts and only 1 active. I do have my LO/Modlist ready to go if anyone thinks they can help.

Old pc. 26 settlers. That stood out 1st to me. Even with my computer, 26 is a lot for smoothness.

Starting to upgrade slow.. sounds like script backup. Have you changed you settings in the ini for the budget changes?

2nd, fast travel to Home Plate. Sleep wait there for a few game days. Turn on your notifications and see if they speed up with the upgrades... if so, then wait a bit more. Save game and recheck fallrim (resaver) for the unattached. I am pretty much running only about 1 or 2 unattached instances.

Post your LO behind spoiler and we can look at it.

And its modding, redoing mod installs and starting new games is a part of life. Sorry, it's kind of the life.

Also, need to know game version, if all your mods are up to date, and when was the last fresh complete game install...

Do this before going back to sanctuary. See what happens And when if you have the scripts clearing out, fast travel somewhere other than the triangle and walk back. I play survival so no fast travel so these crashes are not something I ever encounter.

And on an older pc, you have to help yourself as much as you can.

FYI, I did get it going. It was just the script overload from all the simultaneous upgrades*.

Anyway, I'm using Vortex, so there's that too. But I have a few in there that aren't working. Vault 1080 installs fine, but after sorting with LOOT it breaks, so I'm not sure where to put it in the load order. Also and this one is bugging me. Settlement Management Software isn't working at all and I don't know why.

Ditch that software... old and outdated (there are 2 different versions - Pra has a current mod similar of sorts. Though I can't seem to locate a link. @pra

Vault 1080 is the nVidia competition? I haven't used it... probably I would place towards bottom.

And where to start - vis-g, legendary mods (look up crafting framework) … lots need to be gone.

If you installed SMM after "later in time" installing the mods that need it then it will not work. It must be installed first as a prerequisite than the ones that use it as a dependency.

It's getting late here in Boston(nope, not a pun). I also can't figure out how to quote you guys on this forum, so I'm feeling like getting into editing my list atm might cause me more problems than it's worth lol.

I saw the Workshop framework note in an early post, so I already knew I needed to fix that ty though. Yes, the nVidia one. I'm not sure what you're suggesting here, but I will look up crafting framework. That LOST I found was a guy who got in contact with a bunch of mod authors and got permissions to patch a bunch of stuff to work better together. I'm actually kinda happy about it, fixed a handful of small problems I was having. I'll check out that BrB tomorrow.

SMS, not SMM. SMM has been working great for me. Settlement Management Software adds a holotape to give you added control over your settlement, I've used it for a long time and this is the first time I've had it be a problem. I'm starting to realize how much I had come to rely on it. I think I know exactly what that Better Settler swap fixes. Thanks for pointing it out.

I took a look at your load order, off the top of my head, here is what I would do - note - I know you said you don't want to start over, which is fine - but if you follow these, or any other instructions, kiss goodbye to the game you're playing now because you can't remove mods and play on.

Removal of mods

1. Settlement Management Software - loved that mod, but its not been updated in years. I don't know if it still works, but similar/same functionality in terms of settler management can be found in Simsettlements. If there's another component of it that you use, tell us.

2. Remove any all Vis-G/Def UI stuff. These just bloat your load order. They're not needed, they cause more problems than they solve.

3. Settlement Keywords - I thought that was not supported any more? I certainly haven't used it in years. If you have mods that still depend on it, i'd check them out to see if they are still being updated. If they're not, I'd look to remove them, and Settlement Keywords from your load order.

4. Vortex - simple - all you need to do is let it sort your load order. After it's done that, come back and tell us what mod or mods are wrong - and why you believe them to be wrong.
If there is a mod in the wrong place, all you need to do is create a load before/load after rule so that the mod in question loads before/after another mod. Or, put it into a group that will force a mod to load near to the bottom of your load order. However you shouldn't need to do this for about 99% of your mods.
5. All your other mods - take a look at their pages and look for the following red flags;
a. is the mod still being supported? was its last update fairly recent?
b. does the mod page have loads of unanswered questions/posts?
c. does the bugs section contain loads of unsolved bug reports?
if any of the above are true, remove that mod from your next play through.

what you need to aim for is a very stable game. stability over substance. only add mods that are current, and proven to be stable. everything else is going to give you a hard time and break your game, and the engine is fragile enough that it needs no help from anything else.

b. does the mod page have loads of unanswered questions/posts?
c. does the bugs section contain loads of unsolved bug reports?
if any of the above are true, remove that mod from your next play through.

what you need to aim for is a very stable game. stability over substance. only add mods that are current, and proven to be stable. everything else is going to give you a hard time and break your game, and the engine is fragile enough that it needs no help from anything else.
Hey look, I figured it out lol

anyway, I've installed Pra's mod and removed SMS. Its only loose files, so I think DEFUI or VIS-G is what broke it. It's a shame, it's a great mod, though I had it working fine on my build from a few weeks ago. King should contact the mod author to incorporate some of the features into SS.

As for VIS-G, DEF-UI and Settlement Keywords, they're all required for certain mods I wanted, so there's that. While I liked what they did for the most part, they are definitely not making it into my next mod list. I've already restarted once this month so I don't want to restart the game again this time around.

I did find out how to manually adjust the load order in Vortex. So simple it was stupid lol. I'm not sure how I should handle the Vault 1080 mod, should I give it a rule to load after something, or change it's group so it loads later?

Yeah I get what you're saying about only using "current" mods, I'm trying to keep that to a minimum, but I'm definitely seeing a severe lack of supported mods outside of Sim Settlements stuff this time around. The community doesn't seem to be as loyal as the Elder Scrolls community, that's for sure. And Nexus doesn't exactly give you a good filter for that stuff.
