I highly recommend Auto EXE Backup: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/26956

I also manually make a copy of Fallout4.exe and rename it like Fallout4.exe-1-10-130 to include the version. I just feel better to have a failsafe, I'm sure I'll never actually need it but it just is nice to have. There will be some F4SE mods that never update so I keep multiple of the old versions around. The main guys like Registrator2000 & Expired are super reliable of course but I do find the plugins like Clipboard where they weren't made by one of the famous guys, those ones can wind up abandoned sadly.

I used the Depot method in the opening post in the past, back during the first times when creation club updates happened. But I'd thought that it stopped working anymore? I just intentionally update, renamed the exe to Fallout4.exe-1-10-138 then put a copy of my old one back since I knew they weren't issuing new game ESMs & BA2s(it's a 44mb update). Worst case, if I forgot to set aside the new one I can just Verify Game Files via Steam and get it sorted. It's a bit of an annoyance perhaps to have to do this stuff but when I think of Fallout 4 VR where I hear they apparently do not have ESLs, I think it's worth it to have the status quo since ESLs are very useful.

Thanks I just started my back up folder I appreciate the info, I'll be back working on my houses in the AM and check that out too. :)
