Good use for free build area?

I have a nice little city in Nuka World but I have about 20 - 25% of the build area unchanged. Is leaving this area to the player good practice? I just can't come up with a good use for the land. Is there a way to indicate to the player he is fee to build whatever they want there?

You could let players know about the area in your city description.

IMO it would be awesome if all city plans could incorporate some sort of workshop markers to indicate free or eventual occupied areas(once city upgrades). Would make it much easier to try and use IR and other addons with RotC, as well as putting personal touches on it.

The problem is most settlement build areas are so small that there isn't a lot of space left over once you place a dozen beds and jobs. I guess I will leave a note if I don't come up with something to do with the NW corner in the next week. Maybe I should move the shanty town plots and leave the flat land to the player. More thought required.

Of course, if there is no space there is no space. But many of the default city non-complex plans do have space in them. It is just impossible to know before it reaches tier 3. My point is that it would be cool if city plan makers had some kind of transparent workshop markers to indicate "this is a good place for extra plots". It could even just be "ghost foundations" to indicate that you could put a foundation here(maybe snapping to the ghost) for a plot. Would make it a lot easier to do IR advanced plots and IDEK's logistics before reaching tier 3.

I often leave space, even if it is just for players to decorate. I don't generally mark it as free though. You can browse my city plan tours to judge how successful I've been.

I have thrown in little things into past cities under a mayor's control and wound up with generators or chairs walled off. I just left it alone after that or build in the expanded area outside of the official build area that is opened up by other mods.

I would also like some way to indicate to the player that you are free to do anything you want in this area but ghosts could be misinterpreted has keep out this is for future mayoral buildings. I guess you have to assume that if a player is letting a mayor build they have little interest in building in that settlement or maybe in any settlement.

I guess a mention in the description sentence and some hope is the best I can do right now. I finally went past the build limit last night so it is time to wrap my city up and prepare it for some screen shots.

I constantly advise people - no building in a RotC city until it is Level 3. That is the point when it will finish building as we design it. It's a message that doesn't sink in :(

If you did this it would be "better", here let me to that for you Mr. Mayor. Yeah I like building. Maybe that is why I am doing this contest and I am not exactly the typical user of Sim Settlements.

Absolutely. I never build anything till L3(except my stat boosting generator but I hide it in terrain usually). If I have to test something I place blocks and modpos z 2000 to put them in the sky then snap things on to there. Even if a plan is said to be safe to build in earlier, I don't anyways since how will I know for sure which ones are from the city plan or not?
