Fallrim Tools - the quest for stability...

I'm still trying to solve my CTD problems in settlements and when fast travelling so I loaded my last save into Fallrim Tools and this was what it found:

Is this a lot of bad scripts and could this be the problem? I haven't cleaned it yet incase KG or somebody needs more info than what these screenshots show. Besides I'm waiting for the new F4SE release. :)

If you check several saves, can you see a pattern of active scripts? Amount and which scripts reappear.

Generally speaking , 5 active scripts isn't too bad. Up to 10-15 is ok. When it goes up to 30, 50 or more you're in trouble.

What about the 26 unattached instances; is that something to worry about?

I don't know I'm afraid. Unattached instances are normal in FO4, while they aren't in Skyrim. The cleaning tools in Fallrim is for Skyrim. Then again, some of the unattached instances can be erroneous.
That's why I wanted you to check other/older saves and see if you can detect a pattern. Quite often, if there's a problem, you'll see first nothing, then a slow increase of some scripts and instances that never goes away.

A few active scripts here and there is normal, depending on the timing of the save. But ever present ones isn't normal.

I deleted a bunch of saves between 2016 and yesterday so I really don't know. With only 5 active it doesn't appear to be the issue. I'll have to look elsewhere...maybe something in my modlist that I didn't know was a problem or maybe just settlements getting too big but I've seen some really large settlement so I'm not hopeful there. I reduced my multi-threading to 3 which I don't think I should have to do but I really don't know what else to check. The papyrus logs and crash dumps don't tell ME anything but I did post part of one log in another thread in case they make sense to somebody else.

Ah, that makes it difficult to draw any conclusion of course. I agree with you that you probably should look elsewhere as there isn't any alarming numbers about your script count. Please use other threads for that, as this one is very clearly named Fallrim. Other people searching for Fallrim advice might find our conversation helpful. I'm not very good at CTDs myself, but put up a meaty post with lots of info about your problem and environment (system, mods, settings, where and when, etc) and I'm sure someone from the support team, or other helpful people at this forum, will help you out.

The save file seems "abnormal" BIG - Huge? 58mb? wow. If the save file has been pulling forward from 2016 there have been a lot of game updates. In my mind, if the saves went back to around July 2016, when that game destroying update came out from beth- it is time to try a clean slate install. With a clean start. sorry if maybe that is to easy for me to suggest. from my perspective, SS is about the journey more than the destination. So, I am quick on the restart. Understood if you haven't completed the game the motivation may be different.

Still -

The save file seems to have a lot of quantum foam. That is a saying something. What, I can't say, often just one solution then though. The fast tvl bug and CTD was very common even in the vanilla game and before SS. The way FO4 does the save file you can say "your save file never forgets".

Save file corruption is common in f04. I have concluded in my games when I push through and don't go back to a save pre-problem in regards to settlement issues the problems gradually get worse until the game is unplayable. Qwest's, loadorder "mod conflicts" and item issues / random game burps, you can often get through by going back or if on pc the console/other tools but not the deeper game mechanics. Fo4 is hard to distinguish between a burp and a heart-attack that kills your game hours-and hours later. When the CTD start then I try to reproduce and come to a conclusion on the cause but always go back to a pre-crash save.

I asked the guy that wrote ReSaver to look at my save and he mentioned that it was big too...he also said he's seen them twice as big and he didn't see anything in the save to explain the crashes.

I've finished the game more than once. I could start over but I'm *really* not liking the idea of having to do the hundreds of quests and rediscovering all of the locations I've already found. Really, I'd like to just concentrate of the steam achievements that I never popped but even some of those will require one or more playthroughs of certain quests anyway so maybe I should quit avoiding the inevitable hoping for a miracle fix.

I wish you the best of luck and enjoyment with whatever you decide to do. :!dog:

Beta Patch 3.0.3: Download Here

I am still very backed up trying to keep all the bug reports at bay, so I'm going to continue with the public beta releases until we have RotC in a very stable place so that everyone who wants to help out with fixing everything can do so.

I know a lot of you have sent me messages requesting to be regular beta testers, and I'll get you added to the program properly once I'm more caught up with everything. In the meantime, playing with these beta builds and reporting problems will be very helpful.

Primary fixes in this patch:

- Found a massive problem that could be caused if another mod included an old copy of a specific vanilla script. The result would be the never-ending creation of objects by Sim Settlements. If you find that your game has started to lag horrendously, or crash for no apparent reason, check the size of your .fos save file, if it's larger than 40 MB, it's likely you have this issue.

Sim Settlements now has a safeguard in place, in case this occurs to prevent it, but I'm unable to repair saves programatically - so progress will have to be reset via a clean save. To make a clean save, disable Sim Settlements, load your save, and make a new copy of your save without Sim Settlements. Then re-enable Sim Settlements and load that new save.

If you had this issue, please report your load order so we can compare many of them to hopefully identify any mods causing this problem as they are likely causing issues for others.

UPDATE: I decided to contact Bethesda about this issue, and it may actually be caused by the game itself. The function in question is behaving in a way I think most programmers would consider unsafe and illogical. Either way, we are safe-guarded going forward.

I am still here and my saves, then, were about 55MB. I recently reverted to an older save (about 20MB ) that was beore I started scrapping a lot of stuff that I shouldn't have. Now, less than a week later, my save is over 58MB, has 80K+ arrays (mostly if not all SS related) after building all available ROTC settlements and most are lvl 3. I don't usually get CTD now but my game does often lockup/freeze when saving, or when changing worlds (IE: int to ext, ext to int, FT anywhere, sleeping and or going to other DLC worlds like nuka town or far harbor.

My current load order has changed since I reverted to the older save, I purged a number of mods and added others. If you still want/need the old or current LO I can make it available.

I haven't tried the patch yet.

That's an old patch now - I actually need to go delete those links so no one tries to use them.
