I managed to get my save working again - I redid all the rules and removed a bunch of mods. But now Im getting lag. The game stops for a couple of secconds every 20-30 secconds. Also I cant talk to NPCs except to sigh at them. I showed up for the battle for HQ and everythign went fine till after Jake sends me off by myself. Now I only sigh at him too.

I have all my graphics settings at minimum right now - anyone have a suggestion?

Removing mods generally breaks saves. if it's something like equipment or worldspace edits (i.e. something that doesn't run scripts) then it's SOMETIMES safe, but typically not. if it's something like SS2, with constant running scripts, lots of quests, and stuff that replaces vanilla functionality, then it will more likely then not make your saved game unplayable.

the first thing to do is make sure it's the save, and not the game. load a save from some other part of the game, see if the slowness stays around. turn off everything in your load order and see if the slowness stays around. if either of these tests suggest you have a game problem, not a save problem, then fix that first before you try to keep your save.

you MIGHT try Fallrim Tools Resaver, and go through the process of removing the references to removed mod files, however, i haven't personally had any luck with this, and i don't think this is likely to save you.

you may have to become comfortable restarting. i just went through this myself due to a buggy script with an older version of SS2 that stuck around in my save after i upgraded and eventually killed my game off.

I stripprd the mods down making sure the error remained till I reachedjust SS2 and SS2Ch2 installed. Removing both of them caused dialog to start up normally again. My restart character doesnt have any of these issues so I think its just entirely broken :/

476 Unattached instances. 22744 Script instances. After cleaning I loaded the save and it wasnt skipping and I could talk to folks. I tried the last save, in GNN, and the game crashed when I tried to log in. So its more or less fixed :)

ok. this is what killed my save. there was a bug in 2.0.0-ish that stuck around in my save even after i upgraded to 2.2.2-ish caused a bunch of scripts to recursively recurse until the papyrus VM choked and died.

i had to restart, and i haven't made it back to the HQ to see if it happened again.

FYI-
Removing mods and continuing to use the same save game is not supported by the game. (For anything, not just scripts)
If you remove a mod you must go back to a save made before the mod was installed. - Bethesda

Yup. absolutely. the second you remove a mod you are taking your savefile into your own hands. i have had it work for small stuff, but as Msalaba says, it's DEFINITELY not supported, and you will, eventually, kill your save. it's really only a question of if your save dies before you get through enough to get bored with it.

The power of Todd is a strange and mysterious force.
It could one shot the MC in most Chinese cultivation novels.
It can even turn the protagonist in JRPGs into a cruel, evil, power of friendship hating overlord.
The fact that the Sole Survivor can make it to the end of the game is a miracle in itself. ;)

Even Mr. Garvey seems confused with the "13th Floor" in Sanctuary... Todd... has spoken. :secret
