Solved Can't Assign Settlers to Plots/SS workshop menu does not appear (VR)

I have some experience with Sim Settlements in pancake version, so this one is puzzling me.

Settlers simply do not obey commands to assign them to any Sim Settlements plot. Similarly they will not be auto-assigned by SS or by any settlement leader. I can assign them to anything else just fine, and they obey right away. But plots, they just straight up ignore me (and SS) and keep doing whatever they were doing. They don't even make an attempt to move to the plot.

Also, the Sim Settlements build menu does not appear in the workshop. I can build a limited selection of plots that appear in the workshop menu under "special", however.

There aren't any backed up scripts. Behavior persists through creation of a new game.

I have the 3 in 1 installed (and used FO4VREdit to change the version number to .95 so it would work in VR), as well as the years 1, 2, 3 mega packs installed, workshop framework, and settlement menu manager.

Curious about next steps, since all the threads about settlers not doing anything seem to start with looking for backed up scripts.

All I know is we have gotten a ton of these postings about VR.

Given Bethesda changed the CK without updating the VR version, is beyond me. :umnik2

As-is, I am not discouraging you from posting problems "someone maybe will help," but really think it is on Bethesda to provide the fix.

Sounds like you are already aware of the core issue. :unknw

Well my first thought is that there might be an old version of SS that worked before Beth changed whatever they changed, and was hoping someone would pop in and say "Go with version 3.41" or whatever! But my google fu has not turned up such an answer on my own so I posted here as a last resort.

Replying to my own topic -

I've managed to make it go. Can assign settlers (automatically at least, so that's something), who will build plots and work them.

Use Sim Settlements version 4.20 or before, and any submods (workshop framework, settlement menu manager, plugin packs, etc) whose last release was prior to 2020 to be safe. If you want to check your mod to see if it's safe, you want to check for a file header in Fallout4VREdit version number 0.95 or lower.

Simply using the edit to change the version number is apparently no longer sufficient to prevent issues (unless perhaps this must be done prior to activating sim settlements ingame, feel free to try and reply)

Here's hoping someone decides to unpack the .exe and fix what bethesda won't :beee someday with an unofficial patch or somesuch.
