Solved Can't launch assaults anymore

Hello! First, I have to say, I love this mod. I have over 2k hours in FO4 since it launched and this mod honestly makes it a new game.

However, I'm having trouble with Conqueror. I am using the BOS Faction Pack just after Act 2 started and have had success setting up a main base at BOS Airport and manually set up Outposts at Nordhagen and Outpost Zimonja. I was able to launch an assault and capture County Crossing as a vassal for the airport and apparently for Nordhagan as well (i launched it from the airport but theres a line going to both the airport and Nordhagan from County Crossing). However, I can't get an assault to launch from Outpost Zimonja. After I select Tenpines Bluff to attack and then choose my soldiers (not special units, just soldiers) the assault quest doesnt launch and I get the "Something went wrong setting up your assault" message.

I found the change role workaround online, so I changed all of my warriors to guards and sent them to Zimonja, then i changed 5 guards at Zimonja into warriors and made sure they didnt assign themselves to anything. However, I still get the error message. I even tried using assigning 0 soldiers, like i was going to attack the place solo, and I still get the error message. When I go over to Tenpines, the NPCs are sitting on their beds like captives but talk to me normally.

I'm on PC, using Sim Settlements v4.1.5 and Workshop Framework v1.1.9

I am also playing as BoS Liberator, see https://simsettlements.com/site/ind...a-of-a-conqueror-bos-liberator-updated.11911/ The problem I have had in my game 4 which is "somewhat" related is - getting out-of-order messages during the assault setup, see https://simsettlements.com/site/ind...blem-update-4-potential-bug.11650/#post-81756 .

After you setup the assault at the Field Command Center (same as War Planners Desk), the correct message order is:
  • Autosave
  • Attack Force - spec the composition
  • Gather your forces
  • Started Assault etc
As noted by smogmonster512 the problem may be due to script lag. After Kinggath had released a new major update, I started a new game (Game 5) which to now is working satisfactory.

I will be glad to assist you as best I can.

Thanks for you input. The scripts definitely lag for me at the airport (pretty big settlement i've made) but not that bad at Outpost Zimonja, the first three steps fire off in order and fine succession, maybe only a second or a few between notifications, but then i get the error that something went wrong. It seems like there's a quest stuck or hung up. Is there any way via console commands to reset the assault quest/script or end it so I can start a new one? I guess I could just go on playing and see if it eventually pops haha.

Recognizing Conqueror is a work in progress, I have not had that error. The two I have encountered were:
  1. Out-of-order messages
  2. Long script lag - 10 minutes or more, which unfortunately starts approaching my impatience threshold
I have read elsewhere in this forum, but can not remember where that another cause may be the scripts have reassigned a warrior somewhere during the assault setup process, which causes an error. I will look later in the day for this. If true a potential workaround is to go into the holo, turn off automatic assignments, wait awhile (I have no idea how long) for the scripts to work, and then try an assault.

Is there any way via console commands to reset the assault quest/script or end it so I can start a new one?
I assume so, but you will need to find the quest ID. If you find out/try this please post, because console commands have saved numerous Fallout games for me.

I opened up Conqueror in the CK but didnt have a ton of time, so I wasn't able to find which quest(s) runs assaults. I'll try turning off the auto-assign and run an assault after a couple hours of playing the game to see if that helps. Would prefer that method over forcing things to happen via console.

I turned off auto assign and can say with confidence that my warriors are all not assigned to anything, but the issue persists. As it stands, with no assault quest going that I can see in my log, the settlers at Tenpines, Greentop, and Taffington are all sitting with the tied up animation. So, it really seems to me to be a stuck quest/script.

In my game 4, I was able to play reasonable well for about 100 hrs (real time), see https://simsettlements.com/site/ind...at-is-better-part-2-and-more-questions.11531/ and https://simsettlements.com/site/ind...blem-update-4-potential-bug.11650/#post-80849 This game became unplayable when I was trying to vassal assault The Slog from Greentop. Prior to this, I was able to successfully:
  1. make Outposts of Red Rocket (place Field Command Desk), Oberland (assault), The Castle (place Field Command Desk) and Greentop (assault plus place a Field Command Desk)
  2. make vassals of Sanctuary, Abernathy, Sunshine, Starlight, Tenpines, Nordhagen, County Crossing, Graygarden, and Jamaican Plains.
Each had there share of problems, but I was able to make the settlements a vassal or outpost.

There is another thread discussing the "triangle of death" regarding prebuilts and building at Abernathy, Sanctuary and Red Rocket, see https://simsettlements.com/site/ind...ts-on-the-triangle-of-death.11604/#post-82457

So after this long winded comment and recognizing your problems, a question comes to mind - is the problems I had at Greentop/your having due to geography, similar to the triangle problem?

.. Is the problems I had at Greentop/your having due to geography, similar to the triangle problem?

I know what you're talking about, which is why I decided to make a big settlement out of Sanctuary and basically leave RR and Abernathy Farm alone, but I don't think this is the issue afoot keeping me from launching assaults. It seems there's something broken with the assault script that's running right now in my game. I will try tonight to run an assault from one of my other outposts to see if that kicks it out of the rut it's in. Otherwise, I was thinking maybe updating to 4.2 of Conqueror would stop the assault script that's stuck? I dunno, I'm kind of at a loss.

Unlike my previous game (#4), I have not had any problems setting-up/conducting an assault in my current game (#5). In game #4, installing 4.2.0 "appeared" to fix my inability to assault Graygarden, but I could not assault The Slog from Greentop. I tried numerous workarounds that did not work including extended waiting for scripts to work. Finally, I stopped game #4 and started over.

Shortly, I am going to assault Bunker Hill (vassal), then Covenant (Outpost) and Greentop (vassal). If I can vassal assault the The Slog from Covenant, that might point to a problem with Greentop.

Good luck to you.

I cannot say with confidence that a particular settlement is the cause of a raid not completely firing / getting stuck.
I believe it has more to do with quantity. I have done several playthoughs on Conq, but have never taken all of the settlements. New version, frustration, whatever = new game.
In each of these playthroughs, I have no issues with assaults firing in the beginning. Then it starts to take a few minutes for an assault quest to fire. Then, as the settlements pile up, they never seem to fire.

I run with few outposts and many vassals. Outpost = Starlight and it vassals all it can reach. That is from Sunshine to Oberland to zimonja.
Then I make the Egrets Marina an outpost and get Somerville, Hangman's Alley, and Jamaica Plains. Now I start to have problems but can usually work around them.
Then I grab the Castle, which connects to Jamaica Plain. Running assaults now is an issue.

The Northeast portion of the map has more densely packed settlements than the south so I imagine the quantity issue would hit there about the time you gather up Finch Farm, County Crossing and the like.

So here's a thing.
For PC players, if you type in sqo in the console, you get a phat list of all the quest objectives for your character; past and present.
It's a long list.

What I noticed what that each settlement has a set of 'assault' quests. These range from subdue to kill everyone. I assume based on your role (Conq vs Lib) and what you want to do there (vassal, slaver, new outpost).

Currently the Castle is my Outpost and I tried to launch a Vassal raid against Warwick Homestead.
Along with several Defend the Castle quest objectives, one of them is not like the others (now is when I really wish you could copy / paste out of the console)
== Defend the Castle ==
(Instance 18)
21 Subdue the remaining defenders DORMANT
10 Join the Assault DORMANT
15 Wipe out Warwick Homestead DORMANT
16 Subdue Warwick Homestead DORMANT
17 Defend Warwick Homestead DORMANT
20 Kill the remaining defenders DORMANT
21 Subdue the remaining defenders DORMANT
22 Kill the remaining attackers DORMANT

So that strikes me as wicked odd. Maybe these quests are supposed to be tied together like that when you're launching a raid. Can someone please run the sqo command when they're participating in a raid that is progress to see if it looks similar to what I've posted above? If it does, than this is a red herring.

Edit: There's no 'Assault' quest hiding in there anywhere so I can't manually kill it. I've slept / done stuff / slept some more well past the 24 hour period but the raid board is telling me that there's still a raid in progress. But I can't find it anywhere with console commands. :(

Well - just learned something new. Never knew of this console command - thanks. Later, today I plan to vassal assault Bunker Hill from the Boston Airport. At what point should I use the sqo console command and then I am looking for the Bunker Hill quest list?

PS: in my game 4 as BoS Liberator (144 hrs, Level 47) I had 5 Outposts and 10 vassals. It was this point where the game became unplayable because I could not launch a vassal assault, so I started a new game with 4.2.0.

Once the quest hits your pipboy. There's a great wiki site that has all the console commands. I have it bookmarked at home. Great for trouble shooting busted Bethesda quests (Ada breaks a LOT)

is that site also a good one for all the content creators to use? If I ever get a new PC I want to try my hand at creating some things.

It's essential for testing. You can summon an npc to you, reset quests, etc.
Google search for fallout 4 console commands will find it. You'll know it when you see it. It's well organized and complete. I'll post a link after work.

So there's a pile of console commands as I eluded to earlier. Here's the link to the wiki that contains ALL of them (it's awesome)
https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Fallout_4_console_commands

I used ~sqo (show quest objectives) to try and see what the heck was going on and if my assault on Warwick Homestead ever fired. ~sqo shows you ALL the quest objectives for EVERY quest your character has come across, not just those in your Pipboy.
ShowQuestObjectives <QuestID> or sqo <QuestID> – Shows all current quest objectives. If called with no parameters, it will return all quests, completed or otherwise.

There is ~sqt (show quest targets) which shows you information about all of your current quests. I couldn't use this because the assault on Warwick wasn't a quest yet.
sqt – Show Quest Target: Generates a list of current quest targets. Can also be used to find Quest IDs.
I highly recommend bookmarking this site to learn about the console commands in debugging ALL quests (Bethesda vanilla has several bad ones)

Well there is always something interesting:
  • sniped/attacked Gunner guards at Taffington and allied with settlement
  • on pipboy map, Taffington does not have the pre-vassal icon (pipboy outline with 1/2 chain), but does have this icon for Bunker Hill. I incorrectly assumed that I could not launch a vassal assault due to distance, and instead needed to launch an Outpost assault. However, the dialogue box indicated I could launch vassal attacks at Taffington and Bunker Hill. A minor bug?
  • opened console command and used sqo and got this.

    Rudy - what next?
PS: the entire Taffington assault messages took about 30 seconds
PPS: I have an old save from my game 4 where I could not conduct any assaults due to out-of-order messages. Want a console command listing of that?

So the Taffington assault is showing in the console but not your pipboy, right? By that I mean you don't actually have a quest.
The sqt command will show you all your current quests with their ID, like kgCong_raidergang_assault or some such. That gets you the computer name for the assault quest. With that you can try all sorts of stuff.

I didn't get this far as my assault quest did not appear in the sqt list.

Some suggestions to try would be, if you have an ID... wait, save the game and mess around with a saved game first. You can really bork your whole game with console comands.
So with your saved game, you can try to force the quest to reset. That may put it in your pipboy. I haven't tried that.
You can force the quest past the first stage by using setstage and going to the next higher number past the first objective. I have no idea what that will do if the soldiers aren't there. You may need to solo it.

I wish I had a solid answer for you, sorry.

I do have a Taffington vassal quest in my pipboy, but probably should not because the map is not showing the vassal icon.

With the sqt command I got this and it is showing a settlement assault (Current Quest WSAW_AssaultSettlement-PlayerInvolved 01

The current quest is listed as BoSRo2

A pictures is worth many words, my pipboy
