Lumber Yard is killing my settlement

While I get the buzzsaw is funny to kill stupid players who touch it, it aint so funny when settlers who do not know better keep running into it.

That buzzsaw has killed like four settlers so far. They keep pathing or it for some reason. I put up some of the security cage walls around the plot and they still kept running into it and dying.

The negative modifers for heaving dead settlers is just stagnating the settlement and it just will not grow due to the happiness.

thats hilarious. if i ever want to kill settlers for any reason and dont want to commit murder, i send them to the settlement with the lumber yard and let nature take its course. literally darwin awards for fallout 4.

Build walls or railing around three sides. Doing this stopped the slaughter for me.
I will try that later when my happiness stops being in the shitter, lol.

thats hilarious.
It is kinda funny, but it is really frustrating when you settlement gets stagnated at level 1 plots because you can not even get happiness high enough to raise anything.

This is the opposite of a problem, imo.
You must have something making your settlers mortal because they should only get knocked from it.

I have no mods making settlers mortal, intentionally. I only have 30 mods running, 16 of them are Sim Settlement mods, then the standard misc mods like Better Console, SS support mods (MCM, Workshop, etc.)

I do not wanna point finger, but pretty sure SS or SS Conqueror made them mortal. I do not mind the mortal settlers though, it can just tend to get annoying at times like this.

Ended up moving the lumberyard to one of the outer edges of the settlement. I think the original position was too close to the 0,0 spot in the settlement and that was what was causing the settlers to path over it.

The 0,0 spot is where all the settlers get dumped and their positions and pathing are calculated. For Sanctuary it is the garden spot behind the yellow house where the gourds are.

" SS does not make settlers mortal. It appears to be a mod that alters settler looks usually causing a problem in combination with Workshop Framework.

Lumber Yard can definitely kill."

Do you have better settlers ? make sure that's not set to mortal

The only mods I have affecting settlers is Settlers Calling, Recruitable Settlers, and Recruitable Settlers -Far Harbor.
Settlers Calling only spawns new settlers and Recruitable Settlers are the mayors.

I might have tried Better Settlers like six months ago, but these have been new games. I literally started this one Friday, and it wasn't even a vault exit start. Unless those changes got baked into the game itself.

I kinda like the mortal settlers, but it also kind makes it a pain sometimes. So I think I want to try to figure out the fix or the cause now. I remember when it first started was when I was first playing Conqueror and I just assumed it was a feature of Conqueror.

Time to sift through some forums I guess, I started to sift through the forums on the Workshop Framework and what amess that was with people accusing the mod of being the cause for vanilla issues, lol.

Have you looked through xEdit? Should be something that is overwriting the essential part of the npc record. If not viable there perhaps some other scripting going on?

I cant remember off the top which record contains the essential. If you do use xEdit, you can look under the fallout4.esm to start and look under "Race" check to see what's going on with "Human Race".

Anything similar about the settlers dying?

I dont know about settlers Calling but I know Recruitable doesnt do this on it's own without some external overwrites

I'd for sure use place anywhere to wall off the dangerous area!

Kind of hilarious, but definitely annoying once you get over the initial guffaw.

That is the thing none of my mods should be doing it. I have literally been using them for years without the mortal settlers.

The only thing I can think of is if mortal settler mod had made a permanent change despite it not being installed anymore and carrying over to newer games.

As I said previously it seemed like it was a feature with Conqueror because it kinda made sense since you kill settlers when attacking settlements.

Question: you said had before the mortal settlers. I am wondering have you done a fresh game install since you uninstalled? I mean by everything gone from the fallout 4 game folder?

If not, what I would do, is manually download that mod to your desktop. Use zip or 7z and see what files are in there and then I would follow all the folder paths and verify there is not a single file left. I suspect the uninstall didn't uninstall everything and something hanging in the files, maybe a script?

Otherwise, a fresh game install and mod install. Save your load order list si you can duplicate what your save game has. May even just start a new game at that point.

A fresh install for me is like 22 hours of downloading, so no, lol.

That is what I am suspecting as well. Something did not uninstall and something changed the overall game files instead of individual game files. Mods that permanently change game files instead of save files are evil.

The other issue is this was six months ago and I can not remember if I installed Mortal Settlers temporarily or if I chose the mortal option with Better Settlers.

I have almost 5,000 hours played now and having mortal settlers actually presented a bit more of a challenge and a need to actually equip the settlers. The main problem with that is the lack of ballistic fiber.

For example the other day I watch my Hangman's defense with the Creation Club Ambush Kit cameras because I got hit with two settlement attacks at once (camera is real time with no travel time) and was able to go do the Sunshine Tidings defense. I lost two settlers out of 11 defending.

I wonder if to the game - if the lumber yard kills them, then the game takes it as the player character has killed them? As in they aren’t mortal unless the Player kills them?

Kind of like a rogue hand grenade.

To me that seems to be the only logical explanation between what KG as confirmed and all the reports from the past months from experience players.

I play with very mortal settlers and I can’t kill them with the lumber yard even when I push them in, ha! Go-figure?
