The Official “Ask the lead writer of SS2 anything” Thread!

So does Aiden listen to Instructional tapes for anything? Or just specific topics? And if it is just specific topics, which ones would he listen to?
Mostly how to dissemble and reassemble anything that can be used to kill anything bigger than a bloatfly.

do you think there might be more romance options kinda weird to ask?
Yes. (And if not on the main release, then in follow up content patches)

...how about ...The Ron? ...I mean, you can already flirt with him if you have the Black Widow perk. ;)
'The Ron' is already married.
To his work.

@Sirick since you said this is an ask anything post i have a simple request for you to pass on to the devs can they please make the gunner paint job on the marine armor worn by Berman cartable and can they make a minuteman version as well
That would be a little bit outside of our wheelhouse since it would be messing with someone else's mod (which they very kindly let us use!)

@Sirick

................................. sweats nervously staring between Aiden and Jake uh................is it gonna be like the base game where you can romance everyone? asking for a friend.......

The harem route is a time honoured tradition! As such, I see no reason to do things differently to the base game.

Not only does it make it easier from an implementation point if view, but it gives greater freedom to the player.

Is Rob Lambair... RobCo Rob?? They have some similarities. Both named Rob, both voiced by Sirick. :unknw
Also, got anything to share about the RobCo mascot? ...I may or may not be planning something... :whistle3

It better not be the Rob guy from the satellite site that be so dumb

Nope! Rob Lambair was before my time as writer! Probably one of the first characters I voiced when I first joined the SS2 team as just a VA. So it's just a coincidence!

As for RobCo Rob, he's RobCo's answer to the Vault Boy. They needed a mascot, but something more refined and sophisticated.
Rob is a robot! One of the finest ever created by RobCo, and he's here to tell you all about RobCo's latest innovations!

I just finished going back through the Livestream I guested on the other week with my "planned questions" list open, to check what we didn't get to. There was only one thing we didn't end up covering (that wasn't just me rehearsing answers for questions people might want to ask ME), and it's more a question for Sirick than anything else. (Unless someone else wrote this specific bit)

The little dialog sequence during quest "How to HQ" where Mansfield needs to be told we can't just "take" all the resources from settlements to build HQ, and Theresa gets quite irritable... was that a dig at those of us early on in SS2's life that were not entirely happy/comfortable yet with the Virtual Resource system and the lack of ability to use those resources ourselves?

Secret fun fact: kg actually asked me to provide some thoughts on how that argument could be addressed 'in character' at a point when I guess the writing for CH2 must've been going on, and I drew a total blank
Bonus fact: I'm not upset about that anymore, there is kind of sort of a way to get access to the Virtual Resources via what feels like a "trick" in HQ

i could never get ss1 to work for me and do that so when ss2 came out i was honestly hopping the game would have an option to run like ss1 with the useable supplies it would of made power leveling so much easier cause of upgrading guns armor and power armor frames so yea i hate that it doesnt work like ss1

To be fair, from a purely gameplay balance perspective, the way SS1 did it was probably too generous to the player - especially once you started throwing in Addon Packs like Industrial City that let you build Industrial Plots to generate specific resources (that one plot that made specifically the things the Robot Workbench used was OP as hell). Having direct access to how much stuff SS2's Industrials generate would actually be even worse for throwing off gameplay balance, you'd never be short of anything.

yea ok i can see that than maybe they can implement like a weekly deposit of one of each component item for you or something i guess

Hah! Yes, and no. Gath requested that I try to think up an in-world explanation as to why "we can't just take what we want" compared to how things used to be.

But the request was more out of concern of annoying people who preferred the old system, rather than a dig. The hope was to offer a reason that make people who didn't like the change at least go "Oh, okay. I get it, even if I don't like it."

It comes across pretty well! Especially the iteration on the conversation where Theresa uses a comparison to loaning someone some bullets.
It was just a random thought that came to me while I was doing a bit of "check back over my old complaints to see how they stand now" type upkeep. I definitely get the reasoning, it was more as part of an old complaint I had about the overall "reward level" of the mod in general.
I've also got a bad habit of taking things more personally than I usually admit to

The romance dialog should be moved to after Jake sets up the room for our sole survivor. It seems out of place right after a major battle with "everyone" standing around.

Not quite a question, but I'll do my best to answer!

So my goal with the Jake flirts was for the player to catch him off guard each time, and for each flirt to be just after a big moment. In Chapter 2, you're really just setting up a romance and the actual romance begins in...
Chapter 3, where things will be a lot more personal and Aiden will be watching you a little less.

However, I've never been happy with the second romance setup line. I could have written a little better I feel, and Jake's line delivery is not quite what I wanted (the fault of my direction, nothing to do with Jake's VA). It may be something I redo one day, but I doubt we'll move the lines to another quest. Doing so without it sticking out like a sore thumb would require more work than you might think.

could we maybe get a beach episode "chapter" at Spectacle island since this mod will clearly have 3 episodes "chapters"

So you mentioned there will be other romance options in the future. Can we know what some of those other options are or are you gonna keep us in suspense?

Was reading through someone's mod list and saw a mod for raider chop-shop. It would be SO cool if the repopulate the commonwealth project could include raiders turning to mechanics/construction workers in downtown Boston. Wish I knew how to do all this stuff!
