FO3 worth time investment?

I remember when F3 came out and you had no shadow and i was bothered by the running in 3rd person anim. I still have the game and all the dlc's on disk.

My dad (he's almost 80 so he gets a free pass) likes playing new vegas but i could never get into it. The graphics :bad

To me, it looks and plays like a dinosaur but hey to each their own.
It's rare I fire up FNV. The stories are very good. Yes, the graphics out of the box are, by today's standards - really, really lame. However, there are a number of mods, script extender, LOD enhancements, and graphics updates one may use to update FNV. Not bad - but a bit of work. Oh, there is a dinosaur tourist attraction in FNV, based on the RL one... TWO dinosaurs for the price of one :)

I have done one Fo3 playthrough but hated every second it. Too linear and basically only back and forth in subway.
Played FONV 2-3 times but never really felt attached to it.
Fallout 4 on the other hand, almost 1200 hours played now and with sim settlement 2 it will be many more hundred hours.

*edit, note that I played FO4 before long before i tried FO3 and FONV.
FO4 seem so much more versatile compared to the two other games and also Fo4 got settlement building and real power armour.
yeah, I've long suspected 4 was the superior product and the people on twitter that can't stop bitching about it are the same people who see every star wars the day it comes out only to complain that it was the worst one yet (it wasn't, they can't possibly get worse than 1 or 3.)

It just depends what you're looking for out of it. FO4 has the superior mechanics for the most part but NV wins in items, factions, and story. The shooting mechanics are greatly improved in 4, it's just a shame they dropped the ball on the weapons themselves. I still play all three for various reasons.

Also the new Disney Wars movies are objectively garbage. Whether more garbage than the 2000s trilogy is a matter of debate.

FO4 is superior to FO3 / FNV in almost every way. Except one: FO4 vanilla has reduced the options for initial player charastics. Yeah modders! Sidebar: For me, the very best of player char init devel was Morrowind.

"Nothing" is worse than Jar Jar.

"Nothing".

Even Fallout 3.

Here's Morrowind. Yum. It's like it's real!

Playing FO3 FNV after experiencing FO4 (or Skyrim) detracts from the experience. IF you started on FNV, lame graphics would be more tolerable. Having started on FO4 - in FNV you notice he lame graphics ... more.

I agree. You really could do just about whatever. One thing I miss from that game is the NPC's thinking you're full of crap until later in the game. Rather than "OMG ITS THE DRAGONBORN" from the get go.

Fair enough. But it's been almost 20 years. What's up with those shoulders? haha

Agree - so true. In fine Elder scroll tradition, you wake to the world a prisoner of the Imperials. A virtual no-body. As you progress through the various quest lines, dialog changes, greetings change. Your faction rank and memberships change greetings / dialog. Another thing I really like ist how leveling works in Morrowind: the entire world does not level with you. Areas have their own level. Wander into the 'wrong' area, you get mangled, even one shot killed.

I think it feels more realistic that way. Although the first playthrough was brutal. It was nice to get gut checked every now and then just when you think you're getting powerful.
Finally make it to Vivec in the early game, start thinking you're a bad mammajamma, then get 1-2 hit killed by a Deadroth or Dremora Lord in the sewer.

That's your first boss - an Imprial agent who gives you jobs - and lets you crash at his apartment, yes? It's kinda strange how the graphcs look to us, today, looking back at what was. I wonder, in 10-20 years, when everyone that survives, everyone has augmented reality wired in, and games are photo realistic 3d holograms - what will they think of the graphics in FO4, maxed via mods? Or FO5, even?

LOL... or that lady vampire in the camp just outside Vivec, IF you say the wrong thing. Reload city...

I have a copy of Morrowind in the box...in the basement somewhere and it's staying there. lol

1- Welcome to Morrowind, updated graphics. 2 - I'm your host, LOL. 3 - NPCs do look better.
